NHS Health Check

Are you between 40 and 74 years old?

You can have a free NHS Health Check at your GP practice.

Why do I need a health check?

Your risk of developing certain conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease or dementia increases with age. The NHS Health Check will give you a clearer picture of your health and will help you take action to reduce your risk of developing these conditions.

Even if you're feeling well, it's worth having your NHS Health Check now. By having this check and following the advice of your health professional, you improve your chances of living a healthier life.

You do not need to have a NHS Health Check if your doctor has already diagnosed you with the following:

  • Stroke or mini-stroke also known as Transient Ischaemic attack
  • heart disease
  • heart failure
  • diabetes
  • high cholesterol
  • high blood pressure
  • kidney disease
  • irregular heart beat such as atrial fibrillation

You should continue to see your own doctor as normal.

What does it involve?

You will have a face-to face consultation with a health professional which will last for about 20 to 30 minutes. You will be asked simple questions regarding your lifestyle and measurements such as your height, weight and blood pressure will be taken, as well a blood test to check for cholesterol.

Where can I get a health check?

Every GP surgery in Redbridge is offering a NHS Health Check. You just need to call the surgery where you are registered and make an appointment.
